Terry Johnsons' work as a playwright includes Dead Funny which opened at the Hampstead Theatre and enjoyed two sucessful West End runs
at the Vaudeville and Savoy Theatres, and Hysteria, last seen at the Duke of York's Theatre as part of the Royal Court Classics season. Also
recently revived at the Donmar Warehouse was Insignificance. Earlier work includes Amabel and Unsuitable for Adults at the Bush, Imagine
Drowning at Hampstead, and Cries from the Mammal House at The Royal Court. Work for the Royal National Theatre includes his adaptation of
Edward Ravenscroft's The London Cuckolds, Philip Ridley's Sparkleshark and his own most recent play, Cleo, Camping, Emmanuelle and Dick
which won the Olivier award for Best Comedy.
Recent work as a director includes Shelagh Stephenson's The Memory of Water at the Vaudeville Theatre and David Farr's Elton John's Glasses at the Queen's Theatre. In 1996 he directed the American Premiere of Stephen Jeffries' The Libertine for Steppenwolf Theatre in Chicago. For television he directed the film of Neville's Island by Tim Firth and contributed two dramas: Blood and Water and The Chemistry Lesson to the BBC Ghosts season. Earlier television work includes the adaptation of Alan Ayckbourn's Way Upstream and Nick Dunning's The Lorelei for the BBC. He recently finished the film of Cleo,Camping, Emmanuell and Dick, cnningly re-titled Cor, Blimey!. He also adapted and directed The Graduate, currently running at the Gielgud Theatre and directed the revival of Joe Orton's Entertaining Mr. Sloane. |
