Energetic dancers makes Hiawatha a winner - and HOW

Hiawatha

This production by the Wildcard Theatre Company, based on The Song of Hiawatha and adapted and directed by Andrew Potter, was spectacular.

Together with Michael Rochester as Hiawatha and Tara Hendry as Minnehaha, this dynamic trio offered a marvellous evening of entertainment. The sheer dynamics and raw energy of their interpretation made the story come alive.

The fight scenes were choreographed to perfection with their co-ordination and vitality coming together with split-second timing and adding thrilling tension for the audience.

Although there were seats placed at intervals the audience was asked to participate by walking around during the performance to view the scenes from all angles ensuring nothing was missed.

The show carried a considerable amount of comedy as well as the tragedy which was played out to the end by the three talented performers.

Set designer Sonja Saxe based her theme on the American Indian dream catchers.

The set itself was superb in its simplicity and the innovative use of coloured material which portrayed wind, river and snow were used to incredible effect together with subtly effective lighting.

The pre-recorded music comprising piano, keyboard and vocals was written by the very versatile Tara Hendry who delighted us with an impromptu performance of some of her own songs after the show.

This young lady has a great future. Watch out for her star ascending.

If you were not fortunate enough to be at the Town Hall to see Hiawatha, it is to be repeated at Bourne End Community Centre on September 29 and Hughenden Valley Village Hall on October 7.

Miss it and you will have missed a truly great experience.
