The Other Face of Wildcard

Wildcard Theatre Company's new exhibition - The Other Face of Wildcard - will be opening at the Wycombe Arts Centre Gallery on Friday 8th December 2000, and running until the end of the year. The exhibition features work by two members of Wildcard Theatre Company: Brian Panton and Gill Bates.

Brian Panton is best known as a local professional actor, and he has appeared in numerous WTC productions, including "The Price", "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead", "Othello", "Romeo and Juliet" and "Murder in the Cathedral". He is also an accomplished painter, and this exhibition features a selection of his oils and watercolours from savage seascapes to serene still-life.

Gill Bates is a founder member of WTC and resident Lighting Designer for the Company, but she is also a Photographer and teaches photography at Wycombe Abbey School. This exhibition features her photographs of some of the world's natural wildernesses, to which she travels on a regular basis, to see and record them before they disappear.

WTC Administrative Director, Jo Salkilld, comments: "We are very lucky that theatre is such an eclectic art-form: there is scope within it to incorporate so many different media. Wildcard is committed to working with local artists and our most successful productions have been those in which we have collaborated with practitioners from many different disciplines, including photography, stained-glass, armoury and 3-D installation art.

"There is a wealth of art in the Wycombe area, and the artists and their work deserves to be seen, whether in the theatre, or in more conventional galleries. We are delighted that two of our members have such talent that they are able to exhibit work of a very high quality, in what is really their second medium. It goes to show that if someone is an artist, they are not limited to a single discipline - an artistic talent demonstrates itself in any number of ways. Wildcard is very pleased to be able to play a small part in helping talented artists to exhibit their work"

There will be a Private Viewing of 'The Other face of Wildcard' on Thursday 7th December at 8pm in the Gallery at Wycombe Arts Centre, with refreshments. Please RSVP to the Wildcard Office if you would like to attend.
