Members of Wildcard Theatre Company will be baring all in In the Beginning ... - the latest production from the Wycombe-based company.
In the Beginning ... described by Director, Andrew Potter, as the world's first international bestseller' is an affectionately irreverent retelling of the stories in The Book of Genesis. From Adam & Eve to Abraham & Isaac, Wildcard brings you tales of creation, rebellion, murder and incest, natural disasters and supernatural interventions, a beautiful dream turned sour, victory snatched from the jaws of defeat, and enough multiplication to people a planet!
Administrative Director, Jo Salkilld, says of the show, "Audiences should be aware that the play does contain nudity, but then, how could you tell the story of Adam and Eve without it?. When we auditioned actors to be in the show, we had to ask them if they minded going nude," she continued, "but when they realised why, they were all happy to do it."
Andrew Potter, who adapted the play himself from the various cycles of medieval mystery plays, explains, "We're doing Genesis because it is just what its name suggests: the beginning, the primal source, the gene-pool of all the stories that have been told since. These earthy, divine, sexy, deadly comedies are being played out every day on our television screens, in our press and literature and, above all, in our daily lives. Anyone who has ever tried to make anything, or mess anything up, can relate to this. It's about growing up, letting go and - even if you happen to be God - discovering what it means to be human."
Fidel Nanton returns to Wildcard to play the part of God, following his success as The Ballplayer in Wildcard's production of Insignificance in 2001 and is joined by Matt Hebden as Adam, Peri Thomas as Eve and Gillian MacGregor as Lucifer - all newcomers to Wildcard.
In the Beginning ... premieres at the Wycombe Swan Town Hall Theatre from 1st - 4th October and then tours to Norden Farm Centre for the Arts, Maidenhead on October 8th, the Limelight Theatre at Queens Park Centre, Aylesbury on October 10th and Havant Arts Centre on October 11th.
