Approaching Gig Theatre
Facilitated by Wildcard’s Artistic Director and writer of Electrolyte, James Meteyard.
When: Friday 25th June
Where: Wildcard Studios, 18 Balderton Street, London, W1K 6TG
This is a workshop for writers, theatre makers and anyone interested in the form.
During this one day workshop James will work through how he approaches writing and creating gig theatre, looking at how to approach the form both creatively and practically.
From transforming an idea into a script, infusing story with music and understanding what is effective about the form, to gathering equipment, general logistics and managing the (very loud) rehearsal room, this practical workshop will give you everything you need to know to create your first piece of gig theatre.
James is an actor, writer, director and the Artist Director of Wildcard. He enjoys creating theatre in a collaborative setting and has a keen interest in the use of live music in his work. His most recent production, Electrolyte, won five awards at The Edinburgh Fringe in 2018 including the Mental Health Fringe Award and subsequently toured to 35 venues across the UK and Ireland. James has a particular interest in creating work that engage new audiences with thought-provoking theatre, TV & film and work that raises awareness around important social and political issues.
At Wildcard we believe everyone should have the chance to be creative. We want all our courses to be as open and inclusive as possible to anyone that wants to take part. We are aware that the cost of workshops and regular training is a key barrier in our industry for many people.
With this in mind, we are pleased to be able to offer 2 free places on each course.
If you are interested, please email firstname.lastname@example.org with the workshop title as the subject and tell us a bit about you and why you feel that this would help you.
Bursary places will be offered out no later than 2 weeks before the course begins.
