Signal Fires: State of the Arts

SIGNAL FIRE (N): A FIRE OR LIGHT SET UP IN A PROMINENT POSITION AS A WARNING, SIGNAL, OR CELEBRATION.

The nation’s leading touring theatre companies will present a series of theatrical events at locations across the UK in celebration of our fundamental need to tell stories.

In October and November, fires lit up across the UK and storytellers and audiences shared in one of the original forms of theatre. The fires signalled the vibrancy of touring theatre, and the threat our industry continues to face.

This is Wildcard’s contribution to Signal Fires, titled: State of the Arts. The piece highlights the struggles that our industry is facing and stands in defiance as an open message to our Government, as well as celebrating the breadth, unity and brilliance of our industry; rejecting that we, as a sector, are unviable.
