Half-Mask Shakespeare
This week-long workshop will be a fabulous opportunity to work with half-masks and Shakespeare.
Mornings will be spent warming up physically and vocally to play the masks and the afternoons will be dedicated to exploring how the heightened style of the masks brings the Shakespeare texts to life.

Juliet, (in the Lecoq and Shakespeare workshops this May) and the masks are the perfect way to do it!
This is the ideal workshop for you if you are interested in continued professional development.
The physical and vocal work will challenge and inspire you to fall in love with play again.
The masks will open your mind to a whole range of possibilities in your acting.
The mixture of the masks and Shakespeare will make the text feel available and you will bring characters to life in ways you could not expect!
We will use a mixture of Mike Chase’s 4 Humours masks, Ninnian Kinnear Wilson’s commedia masks and the Oxford School of Drama’s character half-masks.
The warm-up will be extensive, including awareness though movement (Feldenkrais), levels of
tension (Lecoq) and voice work inspired by Kristin Linklater. The afternoon will be spent trying out the various masks with Shakespeare’s Tempest.
All of the work will be logged and recorded as part of the ongoing research for a book Ed is co-
writing on Shakespeare and Lecoq for Bloomsbury/Arden.
We will be working on one play, The Tempest, and we will invite a select audience to watch a short showing of work on the Friday afternoon.

About Ed:
Ed is an actor, director and teacher.
After having studied with Jaques Lecoq in Paris, Ed helped to run the theatre company, Partis-Pris, acted in Hollywood movies, Shakespeare with the RSC, in TV drama, and helped to devise many shows with the likes of Complicité, Improbable and Kneehigh.
Along the way, Ed won a Timeout Live award for directing Een Hond Begraven, and inspired a generation of drama school students with productions and movement at E15, Rose Bruford and Oxford School of Drama.
Ed now divides his time between teaching Feldenkrais Method, writing and exploring movement.
