Generating Ideas
with Milly Thomas
Ever wondered how people come up with ideas? Or maybe you’re scared you only have one idea? Then this workshop’s for you!
Over three hours, Milly will cover topics such as:
- how to identify a new idea you’re excited by and find out what medium it is.
- how to keep feeding that idea alongside jobs and other ideas.
- how to know which idea to pay the most attention to.
- how to create ideas out of thin air when you feel you have nothing left in the tank. (Guess what… you do!)
and more!
With a mixture of discussion and practical exercises, this workshop offers tips, tricks and some radical honesty about where ideas come from and how we can keep them alive.
For all writers of all experience levels.

About Milly:
Milly won the award for Acting Excellence at The Stage Edinburgh Awards for her one woman show DUST in 2017. The play transferred to Soho Theatre and Trafalgar Studios in 2018 and New York Theatre Workshop in 2019, where it was chosen as The New York Times “Critic’s Pick”. DUST was nominated for Best New Play and Best Off-West End Production at the WhatsOnStage Awards 2019.
Milly has also taken part in writers’ rooms for Nevision, Pure Grass Films, Balloon Entertainment and Brown Eyed Boy and completed the 2016 Channel 4 Screenwriting Course. She is a member of BFI Network x BAFTA Crew 2021. Her television credits include original BBC3 series ‘Clique’ and ‘River City’ for BBC Scotland. Her acting credits include Sex Education, The Crown, Downton Abbey, and Enterprice, as well as extensive theatre and film work.
